The Lizard

Movies based on or inspired by comic books, television shows and video games rarely stay true to the source on which they are based. Three trailers have been released for The amazing Spiderman, and it does not seem to be an exception, having altered many important details to characters and plot, especially those which concern the scaly antagonist, the Lizard.

The original Lizard was drawn by comic book artist, Steve Ditko and portrayed with thick green scales and a salamander-like head without a lizard's snout, and he wore a scientist's lab coat and purple pants. He stood upright and spoke english with an intelligent mind, a mind not like that of an animal, but a man. But the original concept underwent changes in future versions of the comic books. The most iconic version portrayed the Lizard with more lizard-like scales and a vicious crocodile-like snout, and he still wore a scientist's lab coat and purple pants. However, he was much less intelligent and with a vicious nature more like that of an animal.

The Lizard will be featured in the upcoming movie, The amazing Spiderman, for which three trailers have been released, revealing him in short glimpses, and Director Marc Webb's version has been said to have been inspired by the original. However, it only vaguely resembles any comic book version, or even a lizard for that matter, portraying him with a more brutish form, thick dark green skin and half a snout. The third trailer reveals glimpses, in which he wears his iconic lab coat, but many in which he does not, and glimpses in which he stands upright. He does not look so much like the Lizard from Marvel comic books as he does the Batman villian, Killer Croc from DC comic books.
